PAXTON (CNS) – Mrs. Minnie B. Hand, 80, of Paxton, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday (May 27, 1970) at Burnham City Hospital in Champaign. She was a member of the Ludlow United Methodist Church and North Harwood Community Club. Born Dec. 4, 1889 in the Danville area, she was the daughter of Jess and Mary Chitwood Grimes. She was married Feb. 21, 1919, at Paxton to Rolla Raymond Hand, who died Feb. 27, 1966. They resided in the Ludlow area until 1948, then moved to Warsaw, Ind. After his death, she returned to Paxton. Mrs. Hand was reared in the Danville and Covington. Ind. areas, receiving her schooling in Covington and Eastern Illinois Teachers College at Charleston. She taught at Armstrong and Clarence. Survivors include four daughters, Miss Lela Hand of Bloomington, Mrs. Roy Lindquist of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Rolland Starkey of Ludlow and Mrs. Frank Gewont of Oconto, Wis.; a brother, Ernest Grimes of Reno, Nev; three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Timmons of Crawfordsville, Ind., Mrs. Lola Carter of Kingman, Ind., and Mrs. Vergie Blacketer of Covington; five grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by a son, three sisters and two brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ludlow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Hall officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery in Paxton. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Brown-Miller Funeral Home in Paxton. The family requests memorials be in the form of contributions to the Ludlow United Methodist Church. The body will be taken to the church before services. – jlr
